Winsome Wire Jewelry is the result of a hobby and my love of gems. I grew up in Mitchell County and since I can remember I’ve attended the NC Mineral and Gem Show. My mom always had an eye for wire wrapped jewelry, especially pendants. We consider ourselves rockhounds and have always shared a love for all things shiny! Several years ago while at the show I purchased a piece of opal rough. I decided to have it wrapped as it was leaving some of the rough on it instead of having it polished. It turned out beautiful and I love it to this day.
I was studying the opal one day and thought “I think I could do that.”
I bought some wire at a craft store and my father in law gave me some tools. I watched a video online to go over the basics and then set about wrapping my first stones. I had an idea of what I wanted each piece to look like and some worked and some didn’t. I like a lighter more dainty style instead of heavy weaves or wrap styles. I’ve learned different methods over the years but I still like the more delicate look. I wrap cabochons and unpolished stones. I’ve also worked with fossils, pearls and seashells. Instead of the copper practice wire I started with I use 14ct gold filled wire and sterling silver wire in my wrapping.

Each of my pieces is one of a kind and hand crafted by me. My goal is to create a piece that is visually interesting and pleasing while also providing a secure nesting spot that showcases the uniqueness of the stone.
